West Trenton, N.J. — A New Jersey police officer was arrested in a cocaine trafficking sting operation that put 32 people behind bars.

Officer Matthew Van Houten, 28, was arrested April 28 for possession of cocaine. TruthVoice found the officer mentioned in a press release issued by the New Jersey State Police, where a tiny mention of the officer’s arrest was buried 9 paragraphs into the report on the sting.

Van Houten was employed for two years with the Camden County police, and resigned immediately following his arrest. Prior to his employment with the county, Van Houten was an officer at the Jersey Shore.

The investigation that lead to Van Houten’s arrested was code-named “Operation Tidal Wave,” and had been ongoing since October. Federal agents from the US Drug Enforcement Agency, assisted by New Jersey State Troopers, seized over four kilograms of cocaine, as well as other assorted narcotics, and $125,000 in cash.
