Bar’s Owner Speaks After Man Hit, Killed By Cop In Front Of Bar
James Moore, 43, had just left The Mad Murphy’s Irish Pub Saturday night near 59th and Lewis when he got hit by a police car.
The cop was on a call and did not see Moore until it was too late.
Moore was walking home from the bar and was wearing dark clothing.
Workers at the bar say Moore was a regular and frequently stopped by for a drink after work.
Those are the last people to ever see him alive.
For 20 years, Mad Murphy’s has been serving up customers in Tulsa.
“It’s just a little neighborhood bar, that’s all,” says Steve Lloyd, owner.
Moore was one of those friendly faces who would stop by the bar for a drink and a good talk.
“He would stop by after he would finish his shift and have a drink and go home,” Lloyd says. “Just friendly, and everyone liked him.”
Lloyd says that’s exactly what Moore was doing the night he was killed; having a quick drink then heading home.
Except he would never see home again.
Lloyd says alcohol did not play a factor. “By all the witnesses that were there, he wasn’t even there 20 minutes. He had one and left. And that’s what he usually did,” Lloyd says.
Lloyd says the workers who knew Moore are having a difficult time understanding how the man they called a friend died so suddenly.
As for the officer, he was not placed on administrative leave. Police say he did not show any improper action prior to the collision.
The pub closed down Sunday out of respect for Moore and his family.
