Cops Delete Video of Violent Traffic Stop
A Virginia police officer has been placed on administrative duty, after new video shows a traffic stop getting out of hand.
The video is from a traffic stop in early January.
Three friends say they were detained by Virginia Beach police for the suspicion of marijuana.
17-year old Brandon Wyne refused to get out of the car and after he was maced, police pulled out a taser.
The video has brought questions of extreme force on Wyne.
“His hands are up and over his eyes. Now at this point in my opinion, everything is fine, what the police have done is fine,” said Virginia Beach Attorney Tim Anderson, “Tasing him, completely unnecessary. He was not a threat, his hands are up, he is clearly immobilized by the effects of the pepper spray. They could have dragged him out.”
Courtney Griffith was the driver, and she recorded the video on her camera.
“One of the most traumatic experiences ever,” she recalled.
She says what troubles here even more was when she got her phone back the clip was gone.
“It wasn’t there and I was like ‘oh my gosh it’s not there’ and then I go to my recently deleted folder the next day and it’s in there,” she said.
WAVY asked police about the potential of officers deleting the video.
Internal affairs investigators are reportedly aware of the allegations and are looking into it.
Wyne is charged with assault and battery, obstruction of justice and other charges including possession of marijuana.
