HOUSTON – Every single home, along the rows of well-kept lush green lawns in a Northwest Harris County subdivision, is about to get a curbside paint job.

“We were surprised that the address of the house was being painted. Otherwise, we didn’t know about that,” said resident Lina Mai.

A thin blue line was painted along her address to show support for fallen Deputy Goforth.

Maybe she hadn’t noticed the sign alerting residents, or it’s possible she hadn’t been to the last few HOA meetings.

While she said she is fully supportive of the decision, she would’ve liked more communication.

“They should’ve asked or sent a letter to inform the residents that they are painting to honor Goforth,” said Mai.

Others we spoke to in the know, like Shawn Royer, said it’s more than just remembering the man gunned down at a gas station months ago.

“It’s for every officer protecting us. It’s not about one man, it’s about a group of people that risk their lives every day for us,” said Royer

He’s decorated his home with blue ribbons and a Goforth sign, while he waits for his thin blue line.

“They are actually in the process of doing the whole neighborhood. It was the HOA board, because it was inexpensive to show our solidarity,” said Nace Peard, the former Steeplechase CIA president.

It costs a little more than $4000 and many feel it’s the least they could do.

“I think everybody’s supporting Deputy Goforth and his family and I feel really bad that it happened,” said resident Mike Huffman.

It’s a small subtle marker, bringing one community together, in a big way.

“I think we should all show support, tie ribbons, paint your addresses, do whatever you can to support your local officers,” said Royer.

The HOA president confirmed one person who was upset with the decision, strictly because of the allegations of an alleged mistress involved with Goforth.

For the most part, residents said those allegations had no bearing on their feelings of support.

Facebook Argument Ends up in Houston SWAT Shooting https://truthvoice.com/2015/10/facebook-argument-ends-up-in-houston-swat-shooting/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=facebook-argument-ends-up-in-houston-swat-shooting Sun, 04 Oct 2015 09:26:05 +0000 http://truthvoice.com/2015/10/facebook-argument-ends-up-in-houston-swat-shooting/

Houston SWAT

A man is in custody after a SWAT stand-off in southeast Houston that lasted several hours Saturday.

It happened in the 7700 block of Leonara near Telephone Road and Bellfort.

The suspect’s mother said a police officer shot at her son even though according to her, he was not a threat to them.

“I told them, ‘I can handle. Allow me to talk. Let me see him.’ They say , ‘No,'” Blanca Medina said.

Police said the man pointed a shotgun at one of their officers while they were trying to talk to him.

“At one point during the exchange with the suspect, (the suspect) manages to raise the shotgun and he pointed it directly in the direction of the patrol sergeant,” said HPD spokesman Victor Senties.

Police said the suspect did that twice and both times the officer fired at the man.

The officer’s bullets apparently struck the burglar bars the man was standing behind in the home and miraculously missed him. Neither the officer nor the suspect was injured in the gunfire.

The man proceeded to lock himself in his town house and at some point his girlfriend was able to get out of the home. Police then brought in heavy SWAT equipment and after several hours, tear gas canisters were fired into the town home.

Shortly afterward police announced the situation was under control and the suspect was in custody.

The trouble apparently started over something the suspect posted on Facebook yesterday. His live-in girlfriend apparently became upset after seeing the post and the couple began a marathon argument.

By Saturday morning, the man reportedly became suicidal and picked up a knife.

Senties said the man’s girlfriend called paramedics and when police showed up, the four and a half hour stand-off began. The suspect is now in custody possibly facing charges of aggravated assault of a public servant.

Senties said officers are glad no one was seriously injured.

Shooting of Houston Cop Was Fabricated, He Was Shot by Another Cop https://truthvoice.com/2015/09/shooting-of-houston-cop-was-fabricated-he-was-shot-by-another-cop/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=shooting-of-houston-cop-was-fabricated-he-was-shot-by-another-cop Sun, 27 Sep 2015 09:20:18 +0000 http://truthvoice.com/2015/09/shooting-of-houston-cop-was-fabricated-he-was-shot-by-another-cop/

Houston Shooting

From his small store front in the Sears parking lot in Midtown, Adrian Gonzales makes keys. It was what he was doing on the afternoon of June 9, when something went wrong just a few feet away.

“I didn’t see anything, didn’t hear anything,” said Gonzales. “I didn’t know anything was going on until all the police were gathered away over there,” pointing to a corner of the parking lot.

Gonzales says a Houston police officer and a METRO police officer would often patrol and park at that corner of the parking lot. Both would be on their motorcycles.

On the afternoon of June 9, Houston motorcycle police officer Terry Smith was shot in the back while parked at that spot, in the Sears parking lot. Within hours, HPD released information to the public that it was looking for a champagne colored vehicle with a man and a pregnant woman inside. They were considered possible suspects. At the time, the Houston Police Officers’ Union had harsh words for the unknown shooter: “He’s a coward to shoot a man in the back when he’s not even looking at you,” said HPOU board member Joseph Gamaldi on that day.

Now, there is one major problem. Multiple sources close to the investigation have told Eyewitness News that investigators now believe the story was fabricated. They are coming to the conclusion there may never have been a champagne colored car with two people inside.

Sources close to the investigation say HPD is working on the theory that Officer Smith may have been hit by gunfire from his friend at the scene, METRO Police Officer Gregory Hudson. METRO confirms Hudson was placed on desk duty on September 2. The agency says the move was made after HPD investigators began requesting information, including firearms records from METRO. Sources say there is also apparently no surveillance video to back up the original story.

Back at the key-making kiosk, Gonzales is shocked by the developments. He now thinks perhaps the reason he did not notice any other vehicles that afternoon was “because there wasn’t anything that happened. Crazy.”

The Houston Police Department says Officer Smith is still on the job while the investigation continues. So far, no disciplinary action has been taken.

Disturbing Graffiti of Police Officer at Gunpoint Appears Around Houston https://truthvoice.com/2015/09/disturbing-graffiti-of-police-officer-at-gunpoint-appears-around-houston/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=disturbing-graffiti-of-police-officer-at-gunpoint-appears-around-houston Thu, 03 Sep 2015 11:35:25 +0000 http://truthvoice.com/2015/09/disturbing-graffiti-of-police-officer-at-gunpoint-appears-around-houston/

disturbing-graffiti

There have been eight police officers killed by gunfire in just the past month, 24 total killed since the beginning of the year, counting yesterday’s shooting death of Lieutenant Charles Joseph “Joe” Gliniewicz of the Fox Lake Police Department in Illinois.

Last week, two Louisiana officers were killed by gunfire in separate incidents, and two officers in Mississippi were shot to death during a traffic stop in May. Police all across the nation are understandably on edge.

Amidst this unsettling atmosphere, someone in the Houston area thought it would be a good idea to stencil some graffiti of a police officer with a gun to his head.

ABC News 13 reports that they’ve seen the anti-cop graffiti in at least four spots in the Washington Ave. area, and have gotten reports of more than that.

As you might imagine, those in uniform say it’s incredibly disturbing to see this just days after a deputy was killed while pumping gas.

HPD Union President Ray Hunt said, “I can’t believe that there are people out there so heartless and so ruthless to put something on there before this deputy is even buried. It does nothing to help to help morale in the police department and does nothing to help the Goforth family.”

The police union has ordered 10,000 bracelets printed with the words ‘Pray for police.’ Officials are hoping to distribute the bracelets to the community next week.

ThePoliceNews, a website for police in Texas, reports that although ”dozens of police officers are slain on duty in any given year, active and retired police officers across the country said the recent bloodshed feels different.”

As the nation has been roiled by strong currents of distrust and fear of police that surfaced after last year’s killing of Michael Brown by a cop in Ferguson, Mo., an ugly byproduct of the turmoil has been a newfound willingness to do harm to those in uniform, many police officers say.

“Day to day, you’re a little more aware of your surroundings, you’re a little more skeptical of people,” said Rick Perine, a 17-year veteran of the Mesa, Ariz., Police Department.

Perine said he has found himself being “hyper-vigilant” since the killings in December of two New York City police officers, who were ambushed in their patrol car. Their killer had boasted on social media that he planned to kill cops in retaliation for the deaths of Brown and Eric Garner, who died during an arrest by officers in Staten Island, N.Y. Garner’s and Brown’s deaths — coming three weeks apart in 2014 — became part of a growing public outrage toward law enforcement.

“These days, if I don’t know you, I’m going to be extra guarded around you,” Perine said. “It is a different world.”

As of Tuesday night, the hunt was still on for three of the suspects wanted in the fatal shooting of Lt. Gliniewicz in Fox Lake, IL.

9:45 p.m.

Authorities scoured a northern Illinois county after night fell in the search for three people wanted in the fatal shooting of a police officer.

Lake County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Sgt. Christopher Covelli says helicopters will fly overnight and about 100 officers will search in and around Fox Lake for the suspects in Tuesday morning’s shooting of Lt. Charles Joseph Gliniewicz.

Authorities say the 52-year-old Gliniewicz radioed in to tell dispatchers he was chasing three men on foot in the village of Fox Lake, 55 miles north of Chicago. Covell says communication with him was lost soon after.

Authorities say the 30-year veteran was married with four children.
